Ancient Egypt Activity Ideas
1. Create Ancient Egypt in the sandbox. Make the Nile River and the pyramids.
2. Make a mummy out of an old doll or buy a cheap doll at the craft or dollar store. Wrap the doll in strips of gauze or in strips of white / yellowed fabric such as an old pillow case. Dip the gauze or fabric strips in watered down glue to make them stick.
3. Make a salt-clay pyramid. Make your favorite salt-clay recipe, roll it out so that it is about one inch thick. Cut out blocks and allow to dry. Use the dried blocks to make a pyramid.
4. Make a mini-altar to an Egyptian deity such as Ra (sun god) or Bast (cat goddess).
5. Make a miniature sarcophagus out of cardboard, tape and glue.
6. Make a set of canopic jars. For each, you will need a 2 liter plastic soda bottle and a styrofoam ball. Wash the plastic bottle and allow to dry completely. Throw out the lid, you don't need it. Push the styrofoam ball onto the top of the bottle. Hold in place with some masking tape. Begin to papier mache around the bottle and form the head on top. When finished, allow to dry completely and then paint.
